PORCELAIN CHAMOTTE USED IN SANITARY CERAMICS

The bricks ceramic chamotte, refractories and other ceramics products have been used in the manufacture of ceramics, making an internal reuse of this material to add strength and structure to the ceramic.

ROCA SANITARIO SA is a company situated in Gavà-Viladecans that reuses the porcelain chamotte, which is particularly difficult to reuse in these processes due to its composition.

This residue is generated in the manufacture plant when they separate and crush the defective pieces of sanitary parts.

This waste is used by LLANSA SA, which is dedicated to the extraction of feldspars (major component of sanitary ceramics). The company introduces the chamotte to its line where the feldspar works, replacing a part of the natural feldspar. The feldspar is sent to ROCA as a raw material for the manufacture of porcelain sanitary ware.

Thus, the consumption of a natural resource by the extractive company is saved by managing a waste as a resource and saving the cost of consumption of a raw material. The waste sent to a controlled deposit is also minimized, the landfill disposal cost is saved and administrative procedures are simplified (there is no acceptance form or tracking sheet).
